Kid Nation Ep.4

Social Structure -  There are multiple religions in Bonanza that certain people study. This is causing many arguments and separations, yet this problem isn't causing anyone to try to solve the issue. The town journal is a book the town council follows to run bonanza, meaning when the journal mentioned religion the town council found it necessary to bring religion into the town. Despite their differences the town really came together to pray around the fire one night. All the pioneers found something in common to bring the town together despite the major religion differences.

Obligation- The pioneers are all given certain jobs to do around the town. However, many yellow teams refuse to do their job when they are cooks. This causes issues because food is a very important part of running the town. Most pioneers fulfill their tasks by completing chores necessary to running the town. The yellow team consistently earns the cooking spot, meaning their job is most likely not going to be done.

Role - Each week the pioneers compete in a challenge to decide their classes that they will be put into. The weekly challenges usually are physical challenges that have to include everyone all ages and all different social groups. If all pioneers participate in their group to help win the challenge they are given a certain role. The team who works the most and finishes first wins the top role, upper class where they don't have anything to work for. The following roles are merchants, cooks, and then labors who have to do all the dirty work like clean the bathrooms.

The Poorest President

The poorest president is obviously very generous. This president only gets a small salary of $12,500, witch he gives 90% of his salary to charity. This thoughtful act that he gives leaves him with only $1,250 for himself. Most people would be way too selfish to donate that much money to charity and very little for himself. It would be very nice if every person thought about others in this way, sadly many people wouldn't commit to this change.

My 5 Day Weekend

This weekend was a very fun weekend, but man did it fly by fast! On Thursday I went bowling with my cousins, then ate lunch with them. On Friday I went to my grandma's house then that night I went to kylie's party, my best friend. On Saturday I was tired from the party so I went to my grandmas house while my dad fixed up his car. Saturday night I stayed up and watched SNL with my dad. Sunday morning I woke up and went for a run, after that I went to my grandmas to have a Easter egg hunt. On Monday my mom brother and I met my dad in St. Louis to eat lunch. I had a pretty good weekend.

Kid Nation 3

Formal Sanctions -  The town council rewards and somewhat punishes the pioneers. Each week all the children strive to do their best, so they can earn the golden star. The golden star is a reward that is a solid gold star that is worth 20 thousand dollars in real money! Sometimes this reward gets to the pioneers' heads by making them do whatever it takes to earn the star. Since Greg is the oldest he tends to strive the most, but he usually ends up failing and receiving negative comments. Formal sanctions can be negative, like when Greg woke up the town by rolling on them , the town reacted in a very negative way.

Desocializations -   The pioneers have had trouble relaxing at night, going to sleep , and waking up early. This has caused the town council to make a rule that everyone must be in bed at 9:30 every single night, and wake up around 7:00 every morning. The children were used to having a guardian to watch them when they are at home, the power of being by themselves made them feel like they could stay up all night and sleep in all day. This is one of the many ways the pioneers have had to give up something during this experience. Many of the pioneers are used to getting food when they want it, usually waking up when they want, and not cleaning up after themselves. These are some ways the children were experiencing desocializations.

Reference Group -   The pioneers are typically used to a parent or guardian to look after them , so when they are by themselves surrounded by children order is very necessary. The town council was made to create order, laws, and something for the children to look up to. Sometimes the pioneers feel that since they are relative in age to the town council they shouldn't have to listen to them. Some of the younger children do use the town council as a reference group, this is key to running a town so that the children have a figure to look up to and some what even to be scared of. This might be difficult when one of the oldest pioneers, Greg , feels he is in charge.

Kid Nation Ep. 2

Values- Some children believed that killing a chicken for meat was barbaric, cruel, and mean. There for, Some controversy was created in the decision to eat meat to end their meals of canned food. The end decision was to butcher some chickens to feast on them for dinner. Some children couldn't deal with the slaughter of the chickens , while others couldn't wait for the delicious food. The end result was everyone was enjoying the chicken, except for a girl who was sad because of the killing of the chicken.

Society- The children are all living in a group called a society. The town is divided into four societies, upper class, merchants, cooks, and laborers. These classes are decided by showdowns, a difficult challenge for each class to decide their new class and pay. The laborers get paid 10 cents , the cooks 25 cents , the merchants 50 cents , and the upper class gets paid a whopping $1.00. The showdown usually ends up with two classes back to back, to determine who will be first class. If everyone finishes the showdown in the given time everyone gets the prize offered. This decides the classes in the society.

Laws- A lot of the cook class didn't want to do their jobs by cooking and doing the dishes. The members from the upper classes had to help out the lower classes due to the lack of work In the lower classes. There are rules that are set that forbid certain classes to certain areas, like merchants aren't allowed in the chicken pin, only cooks and upper class is. A girl wanted to enjoy the chickens to herself, which caused trouble to the girl who was a merchant. Some kids continue to disobey laws.

Kid Nation Episode 1

The council showed they were the capitalists by deciding major decisions, while the town were the proletariats by listening to the councils decisions to do tasks. Class conflict came in when one of the council members wasn't participating in carrying supplies which made the other children aggravated. The older children showed power by thinking they can rule this town because of their strength and age.

Things About Myself

                                                                                                                           1717 W. Main St.

                                                                                                                           April 1, 2014

   Dear Mrs. DeBolt,

Hi! My name is Kaitlyn Rhyneer, your student for 2nd hour 7th grade technology! I am going to tell u some things about myself. First of all I love art and music and anything I can express myself with. Choir is my favorite class along with facs and art. When I'm at home I like to get my homework done as soon as possible, and then play on my phone, watch TV, or go outside if it's nice out.

My favorite food is basically burgers and fries. The burger I like plain with nothing on it only ketchup, its been this way as long as I could remember. I have a great family with two loving parents, a brother, and three adorable pets. I have a 5 month old weimaraner, a 6 year old golden retriever, and a twelve year old cat. My friends are very important to me, I like to hang out with them on the weekends, and just do fun stuff best friends do.

I have some experience in computers, but not much. Hopefully that will change in this class!
I have had computer classes over the 8 years I've been in school, but they never taught us to type with two hands without looks and just normal stuff I probably need to know. Having a phone and other electronic devices in the house has taught me some of the basics, but I really want to become a expert at computers and technology.

                                                                                                                    Sincerely,
                                                                                                                    Kaitlyn Rhyneer

What I Think About Video Games

I believe that video games do not make kids more violent. Video games might influence some kids to engage in violent instances, but for the most part many kids just find video games a fun thing to do on their free time. I myself am not a girl that plays video games but I don't mind people doing what they enjoy, and video games might be a way some kids enjoy themselves. With the tech world that we live in today video games are just a normal part of our society. So no, video games don't normally influence violence.
